Do they even roast coffee?
It’s easy to slip into the routine of meticulously sourcing green coffee. Organising the delivery of said coffee. Pricing up and writing copy for said coffee. Roasting said coffee. Performing quality control on said coffee before packing and shipping it out to customers. This cycle of coffee production is like slipping into a warm bubble bath. Familiarity can be a warm hug. Especially on a rainy winter’s day, when people are are longing for the prompt return of summer.
At times it can be repetitive, but this repetition of SOURCE > ROAST > POST > REPEAT is our privilege. Carving out time to explore our creativity is not always easily done, however it is something we try to prioritise here at Coborn. Coming up for air is part of the job.
For the third in our series of caps, we have evoked fond memories of a childhood obsession with basketball and the culture that comes with it. Walking through Hackney Downs park in the springtime sun with a happy-go-lucky dog, we mused about how to devise a sports cap we were proud of. Once we settled on vintage NBA inspiration as the jumping off point, it was one of those moments that felt like coming up for air. We snatched at spare moments each week over the next four months in order to design this cap.
Our dedication to creative output can be misconstrued as a lack of concern for coffee roasting. This could not be further from the truth. However, we have enjoyed one continual question over the years, ‘DO THEY EVEN ROAST COFFEE?’ It’s only recently that we have begun to see this question as a badge of honour to wear (on our new cap) with pride. If we are giving off the air of seemless coffee roasters who have an abundance of time to dedicate to creative output, we must be doing something right.
The Coborn Sports Cap serves not just as a love letter to creativity but to basketball as well, and all the history it contains.
